The Sherburne-Earlville Special Education Department provides a range of educational programs and services for qualifying students from the time they turn age 3 through the completion of their school career. These programs and services are available to any student with a mental, physical or emotional impairment that affects his/her educational performance. This may include autism, deafness, deaf-blindness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, learning disability, multiple disabilities, intellectual disability, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, or visual impairment.

The Special Education Department works throughout the year to meet the needs of students supported by an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plan. The Section 504 Committee, Committee on Special Education (CSE) or the Committee on Pre-school Special Education (CPSE) meet annually, or as needed, to review a student's academic progress. Parents are highly encouraged to participate throughout the special education process. 

Special Education Department staff work with students, agencies, families, and community members to provide special education support throughout the district. Through collaboration, an inclusive culture - where all students have the opportunity to participate in their school and community together to the maximum extent possible - will be fostered.
