Each year the Health Office is responsible for certain procedures to meet State requirements and to promote health and wellness in our children.
The following is an explanation of the screening procedures:
New York State Education law requires that each student receive a hearing screening within 6 months of admission to school and in grades kindergarten, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10.
New York State education law also requires that vision screening, to include color perception, distance acuity, and near vision be done for all students within 6 months of admission to school. Additionally all students will be screened for distance acuity in grades, kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10, and at any other time deemed necessary.
Scoliosis screening is required once each year for students in grades 5 through 9.
If it is determined that your child is in need of a Professional Examination for any of the above, a referral form will be sent to you.
Health Appraisals (physical exam) are required for all new students and thereafter in grades kindergarten, 2, 4, 7 and 10. Students that participate in school athletics must have a physical each year or show proof of a complete physical within 12 months. Also, any student who enters the District for the first time is required to have a school physical or show proof of a complete physical within 12 months of admission to school. Parents may have their child's physician perform the physical at their own expense. Please contact the appropriate health office if you choose to have your physician do the physical. Proof of the physical will be required, but please remember a visit to the Doctor's Office for an ear infection or strep throat does not constitute a physical.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the above procedures, please contact the Health Office at 674-7310 or 674-7314.
Our school nurse will answer any questions you may have.
