Weekly Update: May 22, 2020

Dear Families:

There will be no instruction on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Enjoy the long weekend!

Pick-up and delivery of food/instructional materials is still scheduled for this Tuesday, May 26. We will continue providing instructional materials until June 9, and will continue food pick-up/deliveries on Tuesdays until further notice.

While COVID-19 is disrupting our daily lives, it is still important to take care of our students’ routine health care and immunizations. Please reach out to your child’s healthcare provider to schedule required school physicals and immunizations.

Just a reminder, our Bassett School-Based Heath Center is available for physicals and immunizations by appointment. This is for presently enrolled students and new enrollees. Immunizations are also available through the health departments of Chenango County and Madison County. Please contact them to schedule appointments. These numbers are available on the Health Office page of the S-E website.

Governor Cuomo announced that summer school this year will be conducted virtually, through distance learning only. He also stated that guidance will be issued next month about the opening of school in the fall.

Sent out earlier this week:
As you know, Governor Cuomo has announced that New York school facilities will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year. As we look to the future, we must think about what a return to school buildings might look like and how best to support students, families, and staff.

Please participate in a statewide virtual conversation about reopening schools. You will be able to read and rate other participants' responses. Based on those ratings, the most important thoughts will rise to the top. All contributions are anonymous.

This is a statewide exchange facilitated by the 37 New York BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services). The exchange results will be shared with our elected officials so that they will have a more global understanding of the thoughts and ideas our community members have about returning to in-person schooling.

We encourage everyone to use the Thoughexchange link to share your thoughts and help evaluate the critical issues. The Thoughtexchange survey has been extended to Friday, May 29.

Sincerely,
S-E Administration Team
