Four SEHS students earn SkillsUSA state berths

Jordan Winton, Chloe Thomas, Emily Lawrence, Riley Smith (2/2023)

The list S-E students who have qualified for state competitions this winter keeps growing!

Four SEHS students will compete in the New York State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championships after winning titles at the Area II Regional Conference on February 10 at SUNY Morrisville.

The team of seniors Emily Lawrence, Chloe Thomas, and Jordan Winton won the Promotional Bulletin Board category at regionals, where junior Riley Smith placed first in Technical Computer Applications. All four take Career and Technical Education classes at DCMO BOCES’ Pole Campus as Emily, Chloe and Jordan are part of the Visual Communications program and Riley is a Computer Technology student.

Our regional winners advanced to the SkillsUSA state competition, which runs April 26-28 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. They join a number of S-E students who have or will soon compete in state-championship events, including all seven of our Odyssey of the Mind teams, all three of our Robotics teams, our HS Foods classes, and five Marauders wrestlers.

Ryker Collins, Aydin Gunther, Avery Parsons and Ruby Rivenburgh also represented SEHS at the SkillsUSA Area II Regional Conference. SkillsUSA is a nonprofit national education association that helps students prepare for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations with the help of teachers, instructors, program coordinators, and CTE industry professionals.
