Superintendent: My door is always open

Dear Sherburne-Earlville Parents, Caregivers, and Community:

It is with great enthusiasm that I join the Sherburne-Earlville extended family.

I would like to thank the Board of Education, Superintendent Eric Schnabl, staff, and community members who have warmly welcomed me to the district already. I look forward to meeting many more of you as I begin to fully experience what it means to be a Marauder.

They say that every journey begins with a single step, and I am honored to be walking alongside you as we take our next steps as a district. Together, we are making history in public education despite these challenging times.

Although our students are enjoying summer vacation, I know families are already wondering about the fall. The start of the 2020-2021 school year may look very different compared to previous school years, but hope abounds.

Our district-level team has been working in recent weeks on the district’s Return to Learn plans for September and beyond. Our plans will be informed by guidance and directives coming from the Governor’s office, the Board of Regents, and the NYS Education Department. The district is currently developing three scenarios – traditional, blended, and fully online models. Our preparations will allow us to quickly pivot in order to adapt to changing situations, whatever they may be.

Please know that our district’s resolve to meet our students’ needs is great. Even in the face of uncertainty, together we are designing a framework that is nimble, flexible, and connective. We remain mindful of the learning and social-emotional impact of district plans for students, as well as the many-layered implications of these plans for staff, families, and community members.

This is a fluid process that requires a total team effort, but together we can accomplish extraordinary things.

I am filled with an abundance of pride to be part of the Sherburne-Earlville family, and look forward to carrying on the tradition of collaboration.

Thank you again for the warm welcome. Remember that my door is always open, and everyone has a seat at the table.

Peace,

Mr. Berson
