Weekly Update: May 8, 2020

This week: picking up student belongings, tentative last day of school, and "Light the Night"

Dear Families:

Next Wednesday, May 13, parents of elementary students will be able to retrieve students’ belongings (left in desks/cubbies and class pictures) and medications (nurse’s office) from the elementary school gymnasium. Middle/high school families will also have one final opportunity to pick up materials from their students’ physical education lockers. We will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to accommodate parents’ work schedules. Access to the gym will be from the parent pick-up loop and individuals will enter in one door and exit another. We ask that all parents please wear face coverings/masks and maintain social distancing when retrieving belongings. In the event you do not have a mask, we will provide you with one. Only five people will be allowed to walk through the gym and retrieve belongings at a time. If you cannot enter the gym due to health concerns, we will retrieve items for you. All belongings are in bags, labeled with students’ names. Items in lost and found will also be made available for retrieval.

In reviewing the school calendar, the last day of student instruction is tentatively scheduled for Friday, June 12. The readjustment to the academic calendar takes lost vacation and unused emergency days into account. The date is tentative, as guidance from the Governor and/or the State Education Department may be forthcoming. More information on fourth marking period grading and collection of student devices (iPads, Chromebooks, and PC laptops) and school materials will be provided.

On Friday, May 15, Sherburne-Earlville will be participating in “Light the Night” to honor the Class of 2020. We will light up the Marauder Stadium lights from 8:20 PM to 8:40 PM along with other Section III schools. This is not a gathering (per Executive Order), but a small token to let our seniors know we miss them and, in our minds and hearts, they are our shining lights.
