Weekly Update: May 15, 2020

What you need to know this week: Checking on assignments, Light the Night, bus tribute, and Graduate Together!

Dear Families:

We wish to thank our families for your diligence in maintaining students’ academic engagement during this difficult school closure. Any parents of students in grades 6-12 needing information on missing assignments should log into SchoolTool to see which assignments their child is missing. Regardless of grade level, please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns you may have. There will be no instruction provided on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.

Tonight, Sherburne-Earlville will be participating in “Light the Night” to honor the Class of 2020. We will light up the Marauder Stadium lights from 8:20 p.m. to 8:40 p.m., along with other Section III schools. This is not a social gathering (per Executive Order), but a small token to let our seniors know we miss them and, in our minds and hearts, they are our shining lights. If you choose to come by the stadium, we ask that you please remain in vehicles and maintain social distancing requirements.

Our Transportation Department, in honor of the Class of 2020, spent time to arrange our buses for the picture below:

Sherburne-Earlville Seniors 2020

Bus drivers are typically the first staff to welcome students at the start of the day and the last to wish them a good evening. We miss all of our students, but we felt it was important a to show our seniors how much we care for you, miss you, and wish you the all the best in the future. Drivers who arranged the busses include: Marty Cox, Becky Izzie, Willard Lamont, Stan Symonds, Tullio Morbidini, and Matt Thompson. Drone footage was provided by Chris Marquard and Rick Crowell. Editing and design work was provided by Rachel Thompson ([email protected]).

On Saturday, May 16, at 8 p.m. ET, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is partnering with XQ Institute on Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020, a one-hour primetime show paying joyful tribute to high school seniors, their extraordinary teachers, and their families. This commercial-free special will air on ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, and it will also be available through partners such as Complex Networks, Facebook, Instagram, PEOPLE, Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube.

During the show, high school seniors and other viewers will be invited to visit the Graduate Together website and click on their state to see specialized content for their graduating class. Students may visit the national Graduate Together website to submit photos, videos, and speeches for a chance to be featured on the show. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has submitted several stories about New York State students that may be featured on the telecast. Additional stories will be highlighted about the Class of 2020 on NYSED’s forthcoming Graduation 2020 web page, on social media platforms, and in newsletters.

We encourage you to tune in on Saturday to help celebrate the remarkable and resilient Class of 2020!

Sincerely,
S-E Administration Team
