An important message for the community

Please read this important update and take part in our Thought Exchange.

Dear Sherburne-Earlville Families,

Today was a strong example of how powerful our community is when united behind a shared cause. Staff, parents, students, and law enforcement all leapt into action, helping to ensure everyone was safe and accounted for.

At this time, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department has informed us that the threat, which we were notified of this morning, began on December 6, 2021, and has been circulating between counties, creating stress and uncertainty in school districts across New York State. The police do not believe it is specific, credible, or targeted at the Sherburne-Earlville School District or any other area schools. The district is incredibly appreciative of the quick collaboration and guidance from law enforcement and know they will continue to identify the origins of this message. Remarks of this nature are a serious crime and will be pursued to the full extent of the law.

We are aware that today may bring up large emotions for many of our students. Counselors will be in place on Monday for students needing support. If you have specific concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our counseling staff, building level leaders, or the Superintendent.

As always, we will use the experiences we had today to reflect and refine our practice to provide the best possible outcomes for students. Please take part in a ThoughtExchange where you can provide feedback for our consideration moving forward

Aain, thank you for the excellent work. We are so thankful for your support and dedication to the safety and success of our students.

Sincerely,
Robert G. Berson
Superintendent of Schools
