Winter Break Travel Notice

If you decide to travel during winter break, there are state guidelines in place that all travelers are required to follow. Click for more information.

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Winter Break illustration (2/2021)Winter break is nearly here. We hope students enjoy the upcoming break while staying safe! Recently, the district has received questions about the procedures and protocols families must follow if they decide to travel during winter break. There are state guidelines in place that all travelers are required to follow including a mandatory quarantine for those traveling to some locations. Specific information can be found at the NYS Department of Health website under COVID-19 Travel Advisory

Individuals who travel for more than 24 hours to states that do not touch New York’s borders are still subject to quarantine and other NYS Travel requirements. In some cases, travelers can quarantine for a shorter period by being tested and receiving two negative test results over several days. You should check the New York State Department of Health website for the steps to follow when you return to NYS after travel: https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory

Traveling increases the chances of getting and spreading COVID-19. Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others. However, if families decide to travel during winter break, please follow these safety measures to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:

    • Wear a mask properly in public places.
    • Continue to socially distance.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.

Stay safe and enjoy your winter break!

Sincerely,
Robert G. Berson, Superintendent of Schools
Sherburne-Earlville Central School District
