Four Sherburne-Earlville wrestlers will participate in the first NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Invitational, a state-tournament style event born of a recent boom in the sport’s popularity, participation and support.

Junior Selina Moore (138 pounds), sophomores Pasley French (94) and Leonora Serrano (114), and freshman Gabriella Naylor (107) will represent the Marauders in the girls-only tournament, which will start at 12:45 p.m. January 27 at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.

“This is the first ever NYSPHSAA girls wrestling event for New York State,” said S-E head coach Greg DuVall, who submitted applications to compete on behalf of the quartet. “It is an honor for our girls to go to.”

Selina (6-6) is the veteran of the group, now in her fifth varsity season since making the team as a seventh-grader in 2018-2019. Pasley, Leonora and Gabbi are first-year varsity members. All four wrestle for S-E during the regular wrestling season – mostly against male counterparts – and have each earned at least one varsity victory so far.

Wrestling is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. January 27, with quarterfinals (3:15 p.m.), semifinals (5:15 p.m.) and championships (6:45 p.m.) to follow.

Although the invitational is open to the public, tickets are only available online and must be purchased in advance ($11.50 each). Spectators must present their interactive mobile tickets at the gate to enter the venue. Screenshots/printouts will not be accepted, and cash sales are not available.
