SEMS student attends National Youth Leadership Forum

Ava Bohnert of the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District joined other outstanding middle school students from across the country at the National Youth Leadership Forum: Explore STEM this past July in Denver.

NYLF: Explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) is an Envision program that enables students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom. Earlville resident Ava, who is interested in civil engineering, had a chance to interact with respected professionals in various fields while building relationships with future colleagues.

Ava participates in Math Olympics, has a passion for reading and plays softball. She was nominated to attend the forum by Sherburne-Earlville Middle School English teacher David Krivit.

“As an alumna of Envision myself, I was excited for Ava to meet, work, and collaborate with other high-aspiring students from across the country,” Envision Senior Vice President Amanda Freitag Thomas said. “Hands-down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our assumptions, meet new people, and grow.”

Since 1985, Envision programs have served more than 800,000 students in more than 145 countries, with programs designed to help students develop the leadership, scholarship and career skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive college and career landscape.
