The 73rd annual Sherburne Pageant of Bands will welcome dozens of bands, hundreds of performers, thousands of spectators and two very special guests to Sherburne from Thursday to Saturday!

More than 30 school districts are scheduled to participate in Saturday’s main event as bands, color guard teams and drumlines will strut their stuff in the traditional march down Main Street beginning at 1 p.m.Student cheering (file)

The parade route will end at the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District’s Marauder Stadium, where the White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps from Danville and the 3rd Marine Air Wing Rock Band from San Diego will perform exhibitions after the final drumline performance of the day. An Awards Ceremony highlighting the Pageant’s best will immediately follow.

The 2022 Sherburne Pageant of Bands officially begins after school Thursday with Small Ensemble and Jazz Band performances on the SECSD campus. The 3rd Marine Air Wing Rock Band will present special assemblies for SEMS and SEHS students during the school day Thursday, as well as a small concert during a break in the jazz/ensemble competition at 6:30 p.m. in the MS-HS Auditorium. The evening concert is free and open to the public.

Jazz Band and Small Ensemble competition will resume after school Friday, and Concert Bands will perform on campus from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday. Marching bands and color guard teams will start lining up on Main Street around noon, with the parade scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Drumline events will begin at Marauder Stadium as participants finish the parade route, with the two special exhibitions and Awards Ceremony to follow. Former Sherburne Fire Department Chief Whitney Palmiter will be recognized as the 2022 Sherburne Pageant of Bands “Person of the Day” during the Awards Ceremony.

Sponsored by the Sherburne Fire Department, the Sherburne Pageant of Bands will return to live, in-person performances in 2022 following a two-year hiatus of public gatherings because of the COVID-19 health crisis. There is no cost nor assigned seating for spectators, who will not be required to wear masks and social distance but may choose to do so at their discretion.

Parking and concessions will be available near Sherburne-Earlville High School. Official Sherburne Pageant of Bands programs ($2) and T-shirts ($15) will be available for purchase as well.
