Congratulations to Sherburne-Earlville senior Landon Andrade on his fifth-place finish during the Division II State Wrestling Championships, to seventh-grader Drew Telesky on his first state appearance, and to head coach Greg DuVall on his selection as Section 3 D-II Coach of the Year!
Seeded fourth at 285 pounds, Landon capped his third straight state-tournament appearance with a 10-5 victory by decision over sixth-seeded Geneva junior Gianni Velazquez in the D-II fifth-place match Saturday at Albany’s MVP Arena. Landon, who placed fourth at 285 as a junior, went 4-2 at states to complete his senior season with a 43-4 record. His overall varsity record – spanning four seasons at S-E – is 133-21.
Drew also advanced to the second day of the New York Public High School Athletic Association D-II Tournament but dropped his first 101-pound consolation match Saturday, 4-1, to sixth-seeded General Brown senior Nahjeed Abel. He entered the tournament as the fifth seed, then went 2-2 at states to finish his first varsity wrestling season with a 42-6 record.
Landon and Drew won individual Section 3 D-II championships to qualify for states and helped the Timberwolves to the D-II sectional team title. DuVall and his coaching staff led our wrestlers to six team championships this season as S-E also placed first at the Penfield-Hunter Holiday Tournament, Cato-Meridian Blue Devil Duals, Cazenovia Invitational, Section 3 Division II Dual Meet Championship, and Center States League Tournament.
S-E junior varsity coach Paul DuVall said son Greg will be honored as the Section 3 Division II Coach of the Year during Section 3’s 16th annual Wrestling Awards Banquet on March 9 at Theodore’s Restaurant in Canastota.
Congratulations, Timberwolves, on a wrestling season to remember!
