On behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration of S-E Elementary, welcome to the new school year! We strive to provide students with a safe and engaging environment. We each work diligently to fulfill our role as part of your child's educational team. As parents, you are also vital members of this team.

Our primary focus is the well-being of our students and their success in character development, as well as their progress in academics. By focusing on positive traits, adverse situations become learning moments and opportunities to grow. Our three school rules guide this approach.

Be Safe.
Be Respectful.
Be Responsible.

In the classroom, students will engage in class meetings to discuss the application of these rules and how to be proactive in doing their part to make sure our school is a welcoming, safe environment for others. Assemblies focus on student participation and positive decision making. Students have the opportunity to earn coupons when these decisions are witnessed by staff members. The goal is fostering student motivation to make the right choice when faced with adversity.

Our academic program includes differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all of our students. In ELA, students will participate in both whole group lessons to focus on common themes and small group lessons focused on targeted skills. Students are encouraged to read as often as they can. Social studies and writing are woven into the ELA strands. We are fortunate to have dedicated science teachers on our faculty. Students in grades 3-5 participate in the scientific method, complete with lab work.

We also provide students with instruction in special areas to support their overall growth. Students receive instruction in PE, Art, and Music throughout their schooling. It is not unusual to see students learning to cross country ski in the winter and walking to the pool for swim instruction in warmer months. Our halls are filled with beautiful artwork, and the musical abilities of our students are evident at concerts and assemblies. In order to be prepared for the ever-changing world, instruction in library skills and computer keyboarding and application is part of our students' educational experience.

As you can see, students are engaged throughout their school day. One of the most important ways parents can support this work is providing students with structure and routine at home. Make time for reading to learn and reading for enjoyment. Maintain a consistent bed time. Encourage outdoor play. Being a parent is often challenging. Thank you for all you do.

I am honored to be part of your child's life. If you ever have questions or concerns, please call me at 674-7336 or email me at [email protected].

Thank you,

Antoinette Halliday
