MS/HS Mission Statements

ELA
The Sherburne-Earlville 6-12 English Department strives to prepare our students
for life after high school, whether their goals are academic or vocational in nature.
Through the study of various genres of literature, we help our students to express
their thoughts clearly in both writing and speaking, to analyze and synthesize
each text, to understand themselves and the world at large, and to develop a
genuine affection for reading and writing.

Math
The mission of the Sherburne-Earlville Middle/High School Mathematics
Department is to provide an educational experience in mathematics that will help
students prepare for successful roles in an ever-changing society. This will be
accomplished through our commitment to excellent teaching, a well-designed
curriculum, and a supportive environment for all of our students. The department
will teach mathematics and mathematical thinking at the appropriate levels, as
well as, challenge students to develop problem-solving skills through the use of
analysis, reasoning, creativity, collaborative learning, and self-expression.

Social Studies
The mission of the Sherburne-Earlville MS/HS Social Studies Department is to
provide for the historical and cultural education of our students in such a way that
they will value the political, economic, geographic and social implications of the
past, recognize their influence on the present and equip them for responsible
citizenship as adult members of local, national, and world communities.

Science
The mission of the Sherburne-Earlville 6-12 Science Department is to enable
students to recognize the value and appreciate the power of scientific

observe their environment, create hypotheses, draw valid and reliable
conclusions, discover relationships among variables, and identify, investigate,
and evaluate solutions to problems.

Foreign Language
As members of the Foreign Language Department, we strive to create a passion
for learning within all our students, while promoting respect, individuality, and

students for the many challenges and opportunities that face our global society.

encourage and nurture a lifelong love and value of music in each and every

their music potential and to cultivate their musical growth to the highest degree.

Art
Art is one of the ways we define culture. It is important that our children are
versed in it.
It is our mission to expose our students to the visual arts in a variety of ways.
Our students experience a wide variety of art forms.
Art is used as a tool for the exploration of ideas.
We provide students with opportunities to develop skills, enhance creativity, and
produce art. Students should do art, not just view art.
